About the "Police College"

The “Hochschule für Polizei“(Police College) in Villingen-Schwenningen is situated in the Black Forest, in southwest Germany. It trains police officers of the German federal state Baden-Wuerttemberg for the Higher Intermediate Police Service. The state of Baden-Wuerttemberg lies in the south-west of Germany, on the border to France and Switzerland.
The “Hochschule für Polizei“(Police College) has a capacity of around 1.300 college places and it employs about 60 full-time lecturers and approximately 75 administration employees.
Studies at the Police College provide our students with the application-oriented scientific knowledge and practical skills they need to carry out their duties in the Higher Intermediate Police Service of the uniformed police and the criminal investigation department.
The study course at the Police College lasts three years. It consists of two years of theoretical study and, alternating, of two phases of practical training. Study subjects at the Police College include
- operational theory, management sciences, traffic law, operational training/PE
- criminalistics, criminology, forensics
- constitutional law, criminal law, police -, administrative -, public employment law
- psychology, political sciences, informatics, business administration, professional ethics, police technical language English and French.
Slightly more than half of the students are direct entrants with A-levels or general college entrance qualification; the other students are qualified police officers of the Intermediate Police Service.
After the successful completion of the study course, the title "Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) - Police Service” will be conferred.
Student police officers of the “Deutsche Hochschule für Polizei” (German Police College) complete the first year of their Master´s degree course at the “Hochschule für Polizei” as well. Furthermore, our Police College offers a variety of advanced training courses.
During the week, the students (some of them with their children) live in halls of residence on the College’s campus or in the vicinity. On the campus there are numerous sports facilities, a modern operational training centre, a canteen with Mediterranean cuisine and a daycare centre.
The Police College maintains several international contacts to France, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Finland, Italy, Greece and Canada.
